Robert Howard, candidate for IOWA
House of Representatives Seat District 80.

One of the more important events at the annual county dinner was Robert Howard’s announcement of his candidacy for the Iowa District 80 House seat. It has never been more apparent than in the last legislative sessions that we miss the power of reason in the Iowa House. From taxes to Right to Work, we have a problem. Bob continues:

“When the Iowa Legislature budgets expenditures of $300 million more dollars than expected revenue but under funds the Iowa Senior Living Trust, we have a problem! When the Iowa Legislature budgets expenditures of $300 million more dollars than expected revenue, but cuts Veterans Affairs appropriations by 33.6% at a time of war, we have a problem!”

More on Bob’s campaign in the coming weeks.

we all know where this is right?

mitt-w-mic.JPGEven though it was Fathers’ Day, there was a large and enthusiastic crowd at the Rendezvous to meet Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann.

The former Massachusetts governor was introduced by Jerry Coffman. Mrs. Romney opened the event with brief comments and then turned it over to her husband. He spoke of his memories of visiting in Iowa as a boy and his upbringing.

Romney spoke of strengthening the country through sound fiscal policies and a strong military. On Iraq he said the future of the county rests ultimately with the Iraqis. One of the main focuses of the talk was how important the family is to this country and how important having both a mother and a father is to children — citing how it took both he and his wife to rear their five sons.

Questions from the crowd were varied and ranged from Social Security, terrorism, abortion to immigration.

One question regarding his qualifications gave Romney the opportunity to talk about his experience with Staples and with helping start up businesses.

After the program he spent time speaking informally with people and signing autographs. - Marilyn Wedel
