’12 Caucus Guide
Iowa Republicans & Democrats will conduct their state wide presidential caucuses on January 3, 2012 @ 7pm.
If you want to help, contact Gina Chesling (link on the front “Welcome” page of this site).
You must attend and become a delegate within your Precinct Caucus to become a delegate to the County Convention. The minor precinct boundary changes (effective Jan 15, 2012) will NOT be in effect for the January 3rd caucuses.
There will be 3 sites for the Muscatine County GOP Precinct Caucuses: Muscatine City, Wilton and West Liberty.
— Wilton City, Wilton/Moscow and Fulton Townships will caucus in Wilton (Carol Wade is organizing this event) @ the Wilton Community Center – 1215 Cypress Street in Wilton
— West Liberty City, Wapsie, Goshen & Pike Townships will caucus in West Liberty (Wayne Corriell is organizing this event) @ the WL High School – 310 West Maxson, in West Liberty
— All other precincts and townships will caucus in Muscatine City (Gina Chesling is organizing this event) @ West Middle School – 600 Kindler
Please note that the doors for the Caucus should be open for registration/dinner (if provided) at 5pm and registration ends at 7pm. At West Middle school in Muscatine, anyone wishing to help with set up can be there at 4pm. We need to encourage people to get there early.
All sites will have food available and registration will start at 5:00 PM. Wilton doors will open at 4:00 PM.
The Republican Caucuses will perform the following functions:
- Conduct a Presidential Straw Poll
- Election of precinct/township committee people
- Election of County Convention delegates, alternates and junior delegates
- Discussion of Platform Resolutions
Please plan to arrive early to register. Registration will end at 7:00 PM and the caucuses will begin at 7:00 PM. The caucus is open to registered Republicans; however, those wishing to register as a Republican may do so at this time.
There will be 300 delegates allowed to attend the Muscatine County Convention, elected from the January Caucuses.
A certain % of County Delegates (about 35 with some alternates) are voted on to move to the District Convention. Those District Delegates are automatically Delegates to the State Convention.
